4 Questions For Mrs. Nuria Hawrylack
Each month we will highlight a different teacher, student, or alumni in our 4×4 section.
This month we sat down with Mrs. Hawrylack who has been teaching at CCA since it opened in 1995.
When and how did you start at CCA?
I started working at CCA in 1995. My husband and I were interested in this Christian school that was going to open and we were very interested in the school for our children. When we came to a meeting in the Sanctuary with Dr. Pennington where he described his vision for the school, he also mentioned they were going to need a Spanish teacher. Although I had never taught Spanish, I was doing translation and interpretation at that time, I felt the Lord prompting me to apply. This was for elementary school, pre-k to 3rd grade. I got the job and been here ever since.
What made you want to be a teacher?
I didn’t know I wanted to be a teacher, it kind of fell on me. However, once I tried it, I loved it. I think God knew best.
What is something interesting that students may not know about you?
I feel so inadequate as far as talent, accomplishment, etc. BUT as I look at the last 26 years, to all the students and teachers that have touched my life, and hopefully I have touched theirs.
I love when a student who was a challenge in class, in academics and in behavior, comes back years later and gives me a hug and you see how Jesus has changed his life around. It has happened a few times and every time I am so thankful to God.
What piece of advice you would give to current CCA students?
You have been and are loved, prayed for, nurtured by every teacher. You have been taught the Word for many years by teachers and pastors. You might be a little naïve about the world out there. Everything you have been taught here is going to be challenged and people will tell you is not true, that God doesn’t exist. You are going to be tempted to fit in. I pray that you will fall in with other people that know the truth, that will encourage you to keep your faith.
