ART
Elementary Art (Kindergarten through 6th grade)
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” Genesis 1:1
At CCA we believe that God created all things. The entirety of our visible and invisible universe was created by Him. Using art to glorify our God and Creator is a core objective of CCA’s elementary art program. As students become more adept at recognizing and identifying visual art in our culture, they will have a larger scope through which they can worship and glorify God.
CCA’s elementary art program facilitates an appreciation for artwork of all styles and backgrounds, while developing a creative outlet for students to communicate their own ideas. Students will have an opportunity to enhance their motor skills, methods of observation, and problem solving techniques. Through the study of art history, students will discover that art has had an indelible effect on culture and can connect to all subject areas.
CCA’s elementary students will be able to recognize and identify how visual art can be used as a tool for: expression of our beliefs, aiding in Christian discernment, connection to our community, and fostering a response to our relationship with an infinite personal Creator. Each school year, the elementary art department hosts an annual Art Show to celebrate our students’ hard work and beautiful accomplishments.
Jr./Sr. High School Art (7th through 12th grade)
“He has made everything beautiful in its time.” Ecclesiastes 3:11
Since God himself is the first and greatest artist, CCA views art as a significant part of human life. God created us in His own image and therefore, to have a portion of His creativity. Art engages us and prods us to think through and evaluate our own lives within the world around us. Art helps us to find joy, to see beauty, and to reflect upon God’s design in all things. Making art forces us to exercise and grow our observational, problem-solving, and independent-thinking skills. It allows us to communicate with kindness and to understand each other with empathy. Art is essential.
In CCA’s art program, students are exposed to a variety of media and techniques such as drawing, painting, printmaking, mixed media, sculpture, and ceramics. Most of the class time is spent creating. A biblical perspective of art, art history, and current art practices are woven into the curriculum. Because every human is creative, all students are welcome and have a place in art class. A primary objective of CCA’s art program is the growth of all its students’ creative skills from the developing learner to the experienced. Higher level courses that focus on portfolio prep, are available for those students who wish to pursue art as part of their career plan. We participate in ACSI’s Fine Arts Festival, and also celebrate student artwork with a CCA Art Show each year.
