American Literature Essentials

This course is designed to focus on American Literature, which includes such authors as Mark Twain, Edgar Allan Poe, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Walt Whitman. Other objectives include developing comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills at a slower and more individualized pace than the college prep English 11. Special services and accommodations are used to support the students’ special learning needs. An anthology of American Literature will be used to achieve an appreciation for American authors, culture, and different genres of literature. Vocabulary is taken directly from the literature that is read to help in the comprehension of the text.

Prerequisite: Administrative placement and/or teacher recommendation.
