Spanish I

The purpose of Spanish I is to communicate with people who speak the language and to understand their cultures. Students will read Spanish to be able to interpret intended meanings. Students will also express meaning by conveying their own messages and negotiate meaning through understanding and making themselves understood. Students will learn basic grammar in a meaningful context and connected to real communication needs.

In Spanish I students will read information about cultures that offer different perspectives and they will be encourage to think and to make observations about cultures and demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the practices and perspectives of the culture studied. Spanish I students will be able to engage in conversation, provide and obtain information, express and exchange opinions.
