Dear CCA Family,
Over the last few weeks, we have been researching school protocol and mitigation resources for returning to the school building in September. We have polled our stakeholders and have researched what our neighboring counties and school districts are doing to mitigate the spread of COVID in their school buildings. CCA would like to follow a common-sense approach that supports parents’ call for school to be “as normal as possible,” while also following basic protocols that lessen the opportunity for the spread of the virus.
We are excited to share that our plan for the 20-21 school year is to have students return to the classrooms and hallways of CCA. We plan to be in the building. We will NOT require masks. Within the current climate, masks will remain optional. Instead of masks we are considering ways that we can reduce class sizes, reduce larger gatherings (e.g.: a weekly rotational schedule that allows some grade(s) in the café to spread out, while the other grade(s) eat within their classrooms, chapel in the Sanctuary with students spread out, etc.). Our band, choir, and physical education teachers are researching alternative methods to teach their craft in ways that highlight theory and practice (and practicing outside when they can). We are considering the ways and frequency of cleaning so that computers and other resources are cleaned between uses. We will obtain cleaning products that have the optimal combination of effectiveness while being food safe, refocus our daily cleaning staff to tasks pertaining specifically to COVID-19, and automate our HVAC system for consistent air exchanges to filter clean air into the building.
We are choosing mitigation options that allow our students to experience school in its most typical form, while also considering guidelines and recommendations that reduce class sizes and lesson the duration of time and opportunity that students are in larger groups, such as in the hallways moving from one class to another. Moving from class to class is a short duration of time. Sitting in the classroom is a longer duration of time in which, students will be socially distanced as much as we are able. We ask that you keep your child home when they show symptoms of illness.
We ask that you join us in encouraging hand washing and mindfulness in regard to minimizing the practices of touching eyes, nose, and mouth. All of these practices help decrease the chance of infection. We want our students to be safe and stay healthy while also experiencing school in a relaxed and peaceful climate. As Pastor Joe said, “we can’t go back, but we can choose to move forward.” We can’t go back, but we can make the new normal as normal as possible.”
We cannot wait to be back in school with the students! In the meantime, there is much to do to plan for school to resume with mitigation. Please join with us in praying for our medical science communities as they are working quickly and diligently toward a vaccine. Let’s continue to pray for our essential workers. They have carried an immense burden these last few months. Let’s remember to pray for our families that are experiencing loss. We are in a season of great need and the body of Christ has such opportunity to minister. We have witnessed so much of this already. It has been an overwhelming blessing to watch you support one another. Please pray for us as we continue to plan in wisdom and in the truth – trusting that God will carry us through and make His will clear as we take each step toward opening up CCA on Wednesday, September 2nd. We thank you again for your commitment to CCA and your faithfulness in prayer. We will communicate with you again in early August as we learn and know more. At that time, we will be able to share more specific information regarding the start of school and the mitigation procedures we will be implementing. We hope you have a wonderful summer and enjoy the relaxed change of pace it affords. See you in September!
In His Love,
CCA School Administration
